Martin Scorsese directs Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes in this epic biographical drama about the American billionaire aviator, inventor, businessman and film-maker.

It's a long film at close to three hours, but the time positively flies by as we follow Hughes through his accelerated rise and fall from the 1920s to 1940s.

Scorsese knows his cinema and this is an excuse for him to look back on those golden years as Hughes directs and woos a bevvy of silver screen sirens, notably Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) and Katharine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett).

Ultimately, DiCaprio's Hughes fits the mold of eccentric genius, a visionary who packs in enough charisma to excuse him his foibles - which get steadily more weird and icky as the end approaches. (169 minutes)
