All Your Faces: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
French drama fictionalising personal experiences of restorative justice
Year: 2023
Certificate: 15
This French drama takes you deep inside the process of restorative justice, and you'll be surprised at the hope and emotional highs it taps into.
Restorative justice is a formal process where victims of crime can be voluntarily involved in mediation with offenders. In a nutshell it's all about finding a way for those impacted by crime to move forward in a positive way.
A fictionalised look at the system (similar to our own), the film follows three groups of victims and offenders as they talk face-to-face. We also follow one of the mediators as she deals with an especially troubling case. Chloe (Blue Is The Warmest Colour's Adèle Exarchopoulos) wants to have direct contact with her brother, who raped her as a child, because she wants to avoid bumping into him unexpectedly.
It's not about judgment or recrimination, the focus is laser-pointed on the process, with equal weight given to the experiences of the offenders and the victims. Crucially, the film doesn't glorify restorative justice but leaves viewers to their own decision about whether it is a good thing or not. (118 minutes)
