'The horror of what was happening inside Germany was only just beginning.' Oscar- and BAFTA-winning film and stage director Sam Mendes, known for Skyfall and 1917, makes his documentary debut with this powerful film that tells another side to the story of liberation.

Two British soldiers, Sgt Mike Lewis and Sgt Bill Lawrie, describe their experiences on the ground in Europe as members of the Army Film and Photographic Unit, who were among the first Allies to enter the Bergen-Belsen camp on 15 April, 1945.

You might want to turn away from some of the more harrowing footage that accompanies the soldiers' testimony, but that's a privilege those men did not have: the trauma of what they saw stayed with them forever. (36 minutes)
