The idea of celebrity chefs seems very modern, but actually world-famous stove jockeys have been around for centuries. Perhaps the first was Antonin Carême, who cut a swathe through the kitchens (and bedrooms) of Napoleonic Europe. This eight-part French series casts Benjamin Voisin as the seductive Carême (a genuine historical figure) as he embarks on his culinary career.
