It's hard to imagine a TV show with a better pedigree than this comedy drama. Co-written by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein and How I Met Your Mother's Jason Segel, it's the story of grieving therapist Jimmy (Segel) who decides that the only way to get past his own problems - and those of his patients - is to start telling everyone the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
The results are startling, but is he really helping people? It's a fantastic premise executed with real style. And if that's not enough to convince you to watch, try this: it also features a certain Harrison Ford as one of Segel's therapist colleagues.
The second series sees Jimmy continue on his unconventional healing path, rebuilding his relationship with his teenaged daughter as his behaviour continues to unsettle his colleagues - especially old-fashioned fellow therapist Dr Paul Rhoades (played with fantastic world-weary annoyance by Ford), who has problems of his own to deal with. It's lovely, bittersweet and wryly funny stuff, and series two also sees co-writer Goldstein join the cast.
The latest third series deepens the focus on Ford, whose character has some health challenges. That's hitting a new stage in this run, but it just allows Ford to do more of what he does best - act, and be dryly funny. Look out for a guest turn from Michael J Fox and from Candice Bergen, too. A fourth series is on the way. (Three series)
