Chris O'Dowd's lovely boyhood comedy was one of Sky's earlier original hits. It's still a delight, and stars David Rawle as Martin, the 'Moone Boy' of the title - a child who rolls merrily through life with the help of his imaginary friend (O'Dowd), and that peculiarly boyish certainty of being forever in the right. Now, that's a quality that could come across as brattish in some young actors, but Rawle is just perfectly charming in every scene.

The show is semi-autobiographical, but O'Dowd said it had another unlikely source of inspiration along the way - the classic US sitcom Roseanne. 'Roseanne was the first time I'd seen a proper working-class family getting on,' O'Dowd reflected about Moone Boy, which is filmed in his childhood hometown of Boyle, County Roscommon.

If you're a fan of Rawle's performance here, keep an eye out for him - all grown up - in O'Dowd's upcoming small town Irish comedy Small Town, Big Story, which also films a little in Boyle. (Three series)
