This US sitcom follows characters who would normally be sideshows or outright villains and gives them a heartwarming makeover. Central to it all is Earl Hickey (Jason Lee), the lowlife who would 'steal anything that isn't nailed down' but who is overcome by an urge to atone.
Taking the idea of karma and running with it, Earl sets about tracking down people he has wronged so that he can do good things and hopefully be rewarded with happiness for himself. Helping him is his brother Randy (Ethan Suplee) and their friend Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) - as well as a $100k scratchcard win. Hindering them is Earl's ex-wife Joy (Jaime Pressly) who wants a slice of Earl's winnings.
Over four series, Earl works his way through his list and strives to do good deeds, even if it lands him in prison (where he stays for some of the third series). It is a neat idea but the show does eventually run out of steam, veering off into wacky territory by its final fourth series. (Four series)
