Can you hear that jangling sound? That'll be the noise made by the Emmy awards that this sweet, good-hearted and incredibly funny show has picked up. Shot in an The Office-esque mockumentary format, Abbott Elementary follows the staff and pupils of Philadelphia's Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, an underfunded educational establishment with its own idiosyncratic approach to teaching.
Quinta Brunson (who also created the series) stars as optimistic and upbeat young second-grade teacher Janine, but watch out too for Sheryl Lee Ralph (who bagged an Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy) as her jaded older colleague and Everyone Hates Chris's now grown-up Tyler James Williams as the school's new substitute teacher.
