Running Point: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Kate Hudson stars in this comedy series about an ailing LA basketball team
Year: 2025
Certificate: 15
When her brother is ousted after a scandal, reformed party girl Isla (Almost Famous star Kate Hudson) takes over the running of the family business, the Los Angeles Waves basketball team. Can she prove to her family, the male-dominated sports world and to herself that she's the right woman to return the team to winning ways?
Written by Mindy Kaling (The Office and The Mindy Project), this is a sparky ten-part comedy with echoes of classic sports movies as well as feelgood shows such as Ted Lasso, although there's a darker streak running through this first series that's ultimately less concerned with the psychological health of its characters.
Kaling's gift for snappy dialogue makes it consistently sparkle on the surface, though, as does the presence of loads of familiar faces in the cast, not least The Social Network's Brenda Song as the team's no-nonsense business manager, New Girl's Max Greenfield as Isla's good-hearted paediatrician fiance and Tom Hanks's son Chet as one of the team's more troublesome players. A second series is on the way. (Ten episodes)
