The premise of this series is simple: ten comedians try to make each other laugh, and the last in the room to crack is the winner. It was a pretty straightforward show to film, too, with all six episodes done and dusted in one day, but that kind of speed is only possible because these are all seasoned entertainers with years of material under their belts, lobbing ever-larger comedy grenades at each other in the drive for victory.

The excellent line-up ranges from absurdist wild cards Bob Mortimer and Lou Sanders to deadpan specialists Joe Wilkinson and Richard Ayoade, from comedy piledriver Daisy May Cooper to cheery Rob Beckett, a man who is such a natural smiler and laugher that you'd think he'd be the first to crack. Will he be?

Most of this lot know each other and that adds a personal edge as the competition ramps up, with co-hosts Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty judging the resulting lunacy from their bunker. Figuring out who will laugh first, and at what, is part of the fun of watching the show, which started life in Japan as Documental in 2016 and has spawned many international versions since. Each carries its own unique national flavour, because what makes people laugh in one country is different to what works in another - the UK version has certainly be a success though, and will be back for series two in 2026.
