Kevin McCloud's Grand Designs and the self-builds featured often come across as wild follies that feel out of reach of most ordinary folk. For this spin-off series, Kevin follows progress at self-build projects at a single location. So, rather than a new-build estate of homogenous homes, each household expresses its individuality, making for streets of patchwork architectural tastes instead.
Over three series, we've followed projects at Graven Hill in Oxfordshire and in Glasgow. Kevin quite often has mixed feelings about the finished houses, but he never knocks the builders' individuality or vision.
