Is It Cake?: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
The perfect recipe for a wonderfully absurd and fun contest
Year: 2022-

It's hard to know what the magic ingredients are that make some baking shows take off more than others, but the hit show Is It Cake? has definitely nailed it. There is a Great British Bake Off element of competition here, but the aim is not to create something delicious, but to make it look like a household object. This is the world of fake bake; where the competition is about making a cake look like something else entirely, be it a hamburger, a sewing machine or an antique radio.
A collection of extraordinarily geeky but endearing bakers star in each episode, cooking for three judges who have to tell from sight whether their offering is the real deal or a very clever cake. The host of all this madness is Saturday Night Live's Mikey Day, a comedian who knows where the line is between the jokiness of the show's premise and the fact that the contestants take their efforts very seriously - as they should. In the second series, the edible replicas include baseball gloves, toilets and the Mona Lisa, and the third features bakes themed around pool parties, room service and jungle camouflage.
