Batman: Caped Crusader: Trailer, certificate and where to watch
Animated series charting Batman's early days as Gotham City's masked avenger
Year: 2024
Certificate: 12
The big-screen adventures of Batman attract a lot of attention, but for hardcore fans one of the most enjoyable versions of the Caped Crusader's story was actually the 1990s animated version that ran on TV.
Produced by that show's creator Bruce Timm - in cahoots with The Batman movie director Matt Reeves and Hollywood helmer JJ Abrams - this ten-episode animated show echoes the noir style and shadowy excitement of the earlier series as it charts Bruce Wayne's first days fighting Gotham's maniacs and madmen.
Taking the character back to its roots, it's set in a beautifully realised 1940s-style Gotham straight out of film noir, with Hamish Linklater (Legion) delivering a spectacularly gravelly turn as the voice of the man in the cowl, alongside Christina Ricci as Catwoman and Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country) as Harley Quinn. (Ten episodes)
