Hardly any reality TV shows bring out the best in their contestants, but few encourage the worst to emerge in quite the way that Outlast does. Sixteen survivalists are dropped into a remote valley in Alaska. Their mission? To survive for as long as possible, outlasting as many of the others as possible. There is no end date to the competition but contestants can quit at any point by firing off a flare.
Each competitor has to be part of a team and the members of the last team standing each get a share of $1 million, but otherwise there are no rules. Bullying and skulduggery ran rampant in series one and the equally compelling second series is little different. The valley might be full of bears, wolves and the threat of injury or hypothermia, but the biggest danger to the contestants is always each other. (Two series)
