This vibrant series plunges us back into the world of the 1992 baseball film that starred Geena Davis, Madonna and Tom Hanks, and which is available to rent on Amazon and elsewhere. The eight-part series, about a team of female players recruited to play baseball to entertain the nation while the men are away fighting the Second World War, better reflects the time we are in now.
The story is seen from the female point of view (rather than the washed-up male coach), and it also features women of colour and players exploring their sexuality. What's most important to know about this show, though, is how funny it is - the cast includes proven comedy stars such as The Good Place's D'Arcy Carden and Broad City's Abbi Jacobson (also the show's co-creator), and its colourful re-creation of the 1940s also provides plenty to look at as these women go about their business, sporting and otherwise.
There was originally going to be a second and final series to finish off the story but, sadly, the show was cancelled by Amazon during the Hollywood writers and actors strike. (Eight episodes)
