You can find all 23 - yes, 23 - series of ITV's Midsomer Murders on ITVX, offering a unique opportunity to relive a quite startling range of killings committed in tranquil Middle England over the past quarter of a century.

Stick around long enough and you'll find John Nettles, as DI Tom Barnaby (and later Neil Dudgeon as his cousin DCI John Barnaby) investigating murders involving hat pins, violin strings, King Neptune's trident, a slide protector, a neck tie and - perhaps most infamously of all - a giant cheese which put paid to Martine McCutcheon's character Debbie Moffett in 2017.

The series also allows us to check out future superstars at the beginning of their careers. Superman's Henry Cavill was a ruffian in the woods in series one, Orlando Bloom's character fell victim to attack by pitchfork in series three, and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman was Bernice the waitress in Small Mercies, an episode first shown on ITV in 2009.
