Netflix viewers have been left raving over a new 'binge-worthy' drama series that follows the life of a professional ice skater - that follows on from the success of fellow skating-based show Heated Rivalry.

Finding Her Edge, which made its debut on the streaming service last week, has already shot up the most-watched charts in the UK and beyond.

The teen drama, which was adapted from the Jennifer Iacopelli novel of the same name, is loosely based on the Jane Austen novel Persuasion - which sees a young woman break off her engagement only to meet again for a second chance at love.

The Canadian series features eight episodes which follow main character Adriana Russo, played by Madelyn Keys, as a figure skating star who returns to the sport years after the death of her gold-medallist mother.

Given the chance to carry on her family's legacy at the Olympics, and save her family ice rink from financial struggles, she takes up the opportunity despite her grief.

Searching for a partner to compete on the ice alongside, she's forced to turn to the last person she'd want to team up with, cocky bad boy Brayden, played by Cale Ambrozic.

Finding out a way to work together, Adriana's life gets complicated when her former ice-dancing partner and ex-boyfriend Freddie O'Connell, played by Olly Atkins, returns.

The show synopsis teases: 'At first, Freddie seems ready to forgive and forget — perhaps even rekindle something – until he sees her skate with Brayden.

'Because, despite the vitriol Adriana and Brayden spew at each other, their chemistry on the ice is undeniable.’

‘Can Adriana conquer the competitive world of ice dancing, or will boy drama dash her Olympic dreams?’

Netflix added that the series sees main character Adriana 'begin to find out that balancing a love triangle, family drama, and her own future prospects might be impossible’.

The book was adapted for screens by Geek Girl's Jeff Norton and Degrassi: The Next Generation's Shelley Scarrow, who added to Tudum: 'On one level, our show is a soapy YA drama.

'But I set out to make it much more than that; [it’s] a layered family drama about a fractured family finding their path back together.

‘Adriana feels the weight of the world on her shoulders. In taking on the responsibility of saving her family’s rink, which is her mother’s legacy, she suddenly finds herself navigating all types of new challenges and pressures, both on and off the ice.’

Fans have been left gushing over the series in the days since it's release, which has an impressive 100% score on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes and has shot to the number five spot on Netflix's most-watched chart.

Taking to Rotten Tomatoes, one reviewer praised: 'There are surprising stand out performances…that have me eager to see what they tackle next.'

Another said: 'It’s easy to watch but also really meaningful, and the characters feel genuine rather than overdone. The story pulls you in quickly, and by the end you actually want more.’

While a third penned: 'This show is a perfect way to open up 2026 with a dramatic bang! The plot is genuinely entertaining.'

Finding Her Edge also features guest-star appearances from Canadian figure skating champions Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, while British figure skating champions Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson feature as voice over commentators.

The new series follows on from the success of fellow ice skating based hit series Heated Rivalry, which finally hit screens in the UK this month as it was released on Sky and streaming service NOW.

The series unravels the budding romance of the two closeted gay athletes who are competing  against each other in a the hyper-masculine world of an ice hockey league.

Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, are at the centre of the story, which is packed with saucy on-screen moments.

Canadian star François Arnaud portrays another closeted hockey player, Scott Hunter, an American professional player and the captain of the New York Admirals.

It comes after François, who wowed fans of the show with his real age, opened up on the production team making last-minute changes to the season one finale while putting it all together in the editing room.

François, 40, spoke to SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live about his new role, which sees him play closeted gay hockey player Scott Hunter in the steamy drama.

Explaining that the story is largely based on the novel of the same same by Rachel Reid, the actor went on to reveal that there was one difference between page and screen for his character.

Character Scott, an American professional player and the captain of the New York Admirals, is in a relationship with Kip Grady, a fellow hockey player, in the novel.

François was asked by the radio show's hosts about what happens between Scott and Kip behind-the-scenes of the main storyline, given it spans a number of years in the series, but just a few months in the book.

The actor explained: 'I've already spoiled that before, I'll just say it again, even though [creator] Jacob [Tierney] will probably, you know, give me a slap on the wrist...

'It's because in the book, and also in the way that we shot it, there was a f**k up in the timeline. We shot it thinking it was six months.... and now it's three years.

'In episode six, the speech where I win the award, there was a line, I say, “Fear is a powerful thing, but this year I found the one thing that is more powerful".

'It couldn't be "this year", so we had to change it. I watched it and it works.'

It comes after viewers of the show were in shock after discovering the real age of hunky actor François Arnaud - who plays a much younger character in the hit series.

The actor has been in the industry since 2011, when he starred in his break out role in American historical TV drama The Borgias - which aired on Channel 4 in the UK - acting as the ambitious son of the Pope.

He went on to have a recurring role in NBC thriller series Blindspot, supernatural drama Midnight, Texas, and made a guest appearance on Schitt's Creek.

Since then, he's also been spotted in Paramount+ series Yellowjackets, the revival of sci-fi series Quantum Leap, and thriller Plan B, which is available on Apple TV.

After looking him up online following his latest role, viewers were shocked to discover the Canadian hunk is much older than his on-screen character.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one penned: 'No way Francois Arnaud is 40 years old... he looks 30 years old MAX. I need his skincare routine.'

A second chimed in: 'Tfym François Arnaud is 40. Girl, I thought he was like 31. See how you age when you’re bisexual and unproblematic.'
