Stuart Little fans have been left confused after discovering the main character isn't actually a mouse in the wake of the much-loved films.
Released in 1999, the first Stuart Little movie was loosely based on E.B. White's 1945 novel of the same name.
It followed Mr. and Mrs. Little (Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis), as well as their young son George (Jonathan Lipnicki), as they adopt Stuart into their family.
Depicted as a charming, talking mouse, Stuart (voiced by Michael J Fox) found true happiness with the Littles - despite initial jealousy from the family's cat Snowbell (voiced by Nathan Lane).
Taking to the 'Today I Learned' subreddit on Reddit, one user revealed that, in the original novel, Stuart isn't a mouse at all.
Sharing an illustration from E.B. White's beloved book, they penned: 'Today I Learned that Stuart Little isn't a mouse, but is actually a very small human boy who just happens to look like a mouse 'in every way'.
Fans of the beloved children's film Stuart Little have been left stunned to learn the title character isn't actually a mouse

Another fan wrote: 'Well, yeah. Why would an orphanage have a mouse up for adoption?'
A third chimed in: 'Just like Hello Kitty is really a British girl who looks exactly like a cartoon cat!'
While a fourth commented: 'Ok. I didn't know that either. Makes you wonder about his parents.'
Fans bombarded the Reddit thread with questions about differences between the films and the books they're based upon
In fact, White himself outlined this in the novel's first chapter, where Stuart isn't adopted but is rather the biological child of Mr. and Mrs. Little.
Following queries from fans, the author once explained in a letter how the character of Stuart came to be.
He wrote: 'Many years ago, I went to bed one night in a railway sleeping car, and during the night I dreamed about a tiny boy who acted rather like a rat.
'That's how the story of Stuart Little got started.'
Following the original film's success, a sequel installment subsequently followed in 2002.
Fox, Davis, Laurie, Lipnicki and Lane all reprised their roles, while being joined by James Woods, Steve Zahn and Melanie Griffith.
A third film, entitled Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild came out in 2006, but this was animated and released direct-to-video.
Elsewhere, fans of Christmas classic Love Actually were left gobsmacked by the real-life age difference between two of the cast members.
Namely, Keira Knightley, who played the role of Juliet, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played Sam.
Back To The Future and Family Ties legend Michael J Fox provided the voice for Stuart in three films
The annual rewatch of Love Actually reminds viewers how close in age Keira Knightley (pictured), who played Juliet, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played Sam, are
Juliet is a blushing bride embroiled in a complicated love triangle while Sam is the cherubic boy in love with his classmate Joanna in the film.
In real life, there are just five years between them, meaning Keira was 17 when filming took place, while Thomas was 12.
This means the actress was 12 years younger than her love interest Mark (Andrew Lincoln) and 10 years younger than her on-screen husband Peter (Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor).
Over the years, fans have taken to X after discovering the tiny age gap.
One wrote: 'Keira Knightley in Love Actually is only five years older than the little boy Sam that plays in the school band for the American girl if that doesn't come as a shock nothing will.'
'That moment you finally realise Keira Knightley was 17 when filming Love Actually and only 5 years older than the little kid,' another typed.
