A dad who has become a viral hit as 'the whisk man' on Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me says he is 'gutted' he did not become a multi-millionaire from the clip.

Kev Riley became a meme when his dinner party trick on the show became an internet sensation in 2012.

The 44-year-old says his biggest regret in life is not 'somehow trademarking' the action of putting the whisk in his mouth.

It has been viewed hundreds of millions of times, still goes viral today, is a design on online card giant Moonpig and was even put on a flag at Glastonbury.

But credit controller Kev, from Burnley, Lancashire, has not made a penny from it.

He said: 'I get sent the clip most days, it still pops up. It's either a meme or a viral video clip somewhere on the internet popping up everyday. It follows me around all the time.

'I really wish I'd have made money from it. I have not made anything. I'm gutted. I could have become a multi-millionaire if I'd have thought about it properly.

'I could have been one of these influencers. It's changed my life in terms of being recognised everywhere.

'But it's not changed anything financially. The clip is owned by Channel 4, so I'm not sure what I could have done. I could have been the whisk influencer or somehow profited from it.

'I think about that a lot. I wish I had somehow trademarked it.'

The fame attached to the clip follows Kev everywhere he goes, not just in Burnley.

On a family holiday to Corfu a few years ago Greek waiters appeared out of nowhere and started cheering him, calling him the 'whisk man'.

He was also attacked on a night out in Burnley with his wife.

But, Kev is keen to stress it has mostly been positive.

He added: 'It shows the power of the internet. It is incredible. I could have done a deal with Channel 4 maybe, who knows.

'People ask me all the time to recreate it and I do. Maybe I could have done personalised videos and sold them.

'Maybe there is still time. I used to be a DJ and I would do the trick for people then.

'I think I'm probably the most famous person in the country in terms of a meme. I'm happy to talk about it.

'It's a great laugh.'

He said: 'A mate did it as a laugh. I know other people have found notoriety from the show. There's the bloke who went famous for the ''sad little life Jane'' comment.

'I'm not sure how he feels about it all. I'd never watched the programme. It's become such a cult hit.

'I thought it would be long forgotten by now. It's incredible that 13 years later people are still going on about it all.'

Kev did the whisk act when preparing his dessert of a cheesecake. His starter was stuffed peppers and main was his new dish 'disco chicken'.

This January marked 20 years of Come Dine With Me.

Kev added: 'I don't watch it much to be honest. I still don't like cooking. It's not for me.'
