Celebrity Traitors fans have pointed out a 'shocking' mistake the Traitors made with their latest murder - as Tom Daley weighed in with his show theory.

In the latest instalment of the BBC One series, after banishing faithful Niko Omilana in a tense new episode, the trio of Traitors, Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns, were seen meeting in the tower to discuss their next victim.

Setting their sights on Olympian Tom Daley, Alan, 49, Jonathan, 64, and Cat, 25, admitted they were concerned that where the 'perceptive' diver 'didn't trust anybody', he'd be quick to turn his sights on one of them.

After debating whether comedian Joe Wilkinson or presenter Claire Balding would be a better choice, they settled on Tom as they hoped it would avoid putting them on the radar.

The Faithful were left shocked at breakfast when he didn't return and it was revealed he had been killed, after Tom, 31, was issued a note to signal his death the previous night.

Now, fans at home have hit out that they think the Traitors made a big mistake in killing off Tom, after one of the celebrity Faithfuls began pinning the killings on him.

As the death was confirmed by host Claudia Winkleman, Stephen Fry admitted that the sportsman had been 'next on his list as a Traitor'.

Taking to X, one viewer hit out that a massive mistake had been made, writing: 'Killing Tom when people thought he was a Traitor is kinda dumb.'

A second agreed: 'Picking Tom Daley was a mistake. Some of the celebs thought he was a Traitor,' as a third echoed: 'He was already under suspicion of being a Traitor.'

However, after his killing, Tom told the BBC how he expected to be a target of the Traitors for a dramatically different reason - because he posed a threat, namely due to the fact that he was very familiar with the gameshow.

He said: 'It was so sad when I saw the letter on the chair and I instantly knew I’d been murdered, because we haven’t found a Traitor yet, I thought there’s no way it can be a recruitment.

'I was firstly sad and then very confused about what The Traitors are doing because I clearly would be someone that would get banished at the Round Table.

'If any of the Traitors just planted that seed at the Round Table, I’m sure I would be banished.

'They could have murdered someone that they know would never have gotten banished at the Round Table.

'Maybe they thought of me as a threat. Maybe I was getting too close to the right answers.'

Tom, who has played the Traitors game at home with his family, continued: 'Every time I’ve played as a Traitor, no one has detected me.

'Every time I’ve played as a Faithful, people thought I was a Traitor because I was always trying to figure out who the Traitors were.

'I can perhaps be a little too vocal with my ideas in pursuit of them, which is exactly what has happened here.'

Tom added on the show: 'Well that didn't take long, did it? I am gutted to be leaving the game - I was murdered because people see me as a threat, and I think they might think I'll weasel them out eventually.'

Before his murder, Tom sent The Traitors fans wild after displaying his ripped physique as he stripped off in the shower.

Fans took to X to voice their appreciation for the producers adding in the shower shot before he was sent packing, quipping: 'Oh they absolutely knew what they were doing slotting this in at 9:10pm right before he was killed off.'

One penned: 'At least they gave us one shower shot before his untimely death,' as a second wrote: 'Production getting Tom Daley to film a VT in the shower. Of course.'

While many fans were devastated that the diver was out of the competition so early, they were appeased by the fact that his final moments saw him displaying his chiselled abs in the shower

A third added: 'At least he got to have a shower scene before being murdered', while a fourth chimed in: 'MURDERED AFTER ONLY ONE SHOWER SCENE? WE WERE F***ING ROBBED.'

'The BBC know their audience with that Tom shower video,' a fifth concluded.

Tom's murder sent shockwaves through the castle when the Faithful's realised the following morning, with Stephen Fry exclaiming: 'Tom's gone! I Don't believe it, he was next on my list as a Traitor to be honest.'

While Clare fumed: 'I was furious because I thought how can Tom not be in this room? Added to the fact I've known him since I was 12 years old, I'm bereft.'

But Alan couldn't hold back his giggles at the revelation and admitted he was delighted by the group's reaction to their choice of victim.

He bluntly said in a confessional: 'It was just the kind of impact I wanted - Where's Tom? Why Tom? Well he's been murdered, deal with it.'

The Traitors airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
