Game Of Thrones fans have been left raving over the franchise's new series, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, after a 'stunning' first look.

The sneak peek into what viewers can expect from the action in the HBO spin-off was released earlier this week, with a release date confirmed for early 2026.

The series, which is co-created by Game Of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin and film producer Ira Parker, will star Bad Sister's Peter Claffey as main character Ser Duncan the Tall, also known as 'Dunk'.

He'll be joined on screen by Dexter Sol-Ansell as the young Targaryen prince known as Egg,  who travels as a squire to the knight Ser Duncan.

The first look poster, released on the Game of Thrones social media pages, sees the new duo holding onto the same large sword, alongside the words: 'A Tall Tale That Became Legend.'

Other images have given a peek at Ser Duncan wearing his knight uniform, as well as young Egg, with his shaved head, out on the road with the Knight.

The show synopsis teases: 'A century before the events of Game Of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.

'Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.'

Taking to social media to react to the first look, fans admitted they were 'hyped' for the series' launch, which has been set for January 2026.

One wrote: ‘I’m actually so hyped for this… seems like it’s going to be a proper adventure story,' as a second said: 'We have never been more back!'

Another chimed in: ‘Hear me out on something unpopular. This might be the smartest move HBO could make – going back to what made early GOT great: complex characters in complex political settings.’

As a fourth added: 'Looks stunning already! Feels like classic Westeros vibes are back — can’t wait to see how this story connects to the Game of Thrones timeline.'

‘I’m crying right know,' someone else added, while a sixth concluded: 'A proper Westeros binge year.'

It comes after it was confirmed that there would be not one but two new spin-off series to the Game of Thrones universe in 2026.

Fans have previously been left waiting years between new series due to filming delays and the sheer scale of the production, with its CGI dragons and epic battles.

However, HBO appear to have turned over a new leaf.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms was originally supposed to air later this year, with some insiders suggesting reshooting of certain scenes pushed back the release.

It will be followed by the highly anticipated third season of House Of The Dragon, which has set its premiere date for June.

It marks the first time ever that two series set in the fictional city of Westeros will be released to viewers in the same year.

Last year, it was revealed that Warner Bros looked to be beginning to lay the groundwork for 'at least one film' set in George R.R. Martin’s beloved fantasy world.

The Hollywood Reporter alleged that while the project is still in its infancy, lacking a director, cast, or script, the production company is enthusiastic about bringing the rich narratives of the Seven Kingdoms to the big screen.

Initially, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss envisioned concluding the series with a theatrical trilogy instead of the 2019 finale.

Martin himself hinted at the possibility of a movie as far back as 2014.

As fans know, the world of Thrones has dipped its toes into the theatrical realm before, as HBO organised special screenings of pivotal episodes from the original series in select theatres.

Last April, Kit Harrington, known for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, disclosed that plans for a spin-off sequel focused on his character had been shelved.

There were hopes for series starring Kit, 37, as the title character was taken out of active development at HBO/MAX, according to Screen Rant.

In an interview with the outlet, the British actor confirmed the disappointing news about the sequel.

'I hadn't really ever spoken about it, because it was in development,' he explained.

'I didn't want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn't want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen.

'Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it's worth it, and currently, it's not.'
