SNL makes mockery of JK Rowling as her trans clash with Emma Watson reaches boiling point

Saturday Night Live's latest controversial skit launched an attack on JK Rowling amid the author's heated spat with Harry Potter star Emma Watson

The late-night comedy show's 51st season premiere, hosted by Bad Bunny, included a skit during their 'Weekend Update' segment that mocked Rowling over her stance on the trans community.

Bowen Yang portrayed the Harry Potter character Dobby the House Elf and, in conversation with Update host's Michael Che and Colin Jost, said his 'master' ordered him to appear on the show and 'define once and for all what a woman is.'

Che introduced the skit by shedding light on the current feud between Rowling and Watson, after the author dubbed the celebrity 'ignorant.'

'This week Harry Potter author JK Rowling called Emma Watson ignorant and out of touch after Watson refused to defend Rowling's controversial stance on trans rights, here to comment is Dobby the House Elf,' Che said.

As the scene began, Che told the elf there was 'no reason to be scared.'

'Scared? Why would Dobby be scared sir? Dobby's just about to publicly weigh in on trans people that's all,' Yang said nervously.

When asked if he 'really had to,' the elf declared that he was ordered to do so by his 'master.'

'Is your master JK Rowling?' Che proceeded to ask.

'Of course sir! Oh, oh no. Dobby wasn't supposed to say,' Yang said before banging his head on the desk yelling, 'Bad Dobby,' in likeness of the character.

'Dobby had to self-punish,' Yang continued, before fixing a wardrobe malfunction and jokingly adding: 'Dobby's come un-done. My fatigues are not well made!'

'You see, Master Rowling has done so much for Dobby and for inclusion in general. Remember when Dumbledore was gay after the books came out and when Hermione was Black, only on Broadway. And when Cho Chang was, hmm was Cho Chang Asian?' the elf queried sarcastically.

'Dobby can't remember if the character named Cho Chang was Asian or not,' Yang said.

The elf further said that Dobby came to say that 'women's bathrooms are for women only, and girls and ghosts of girls,' referring to another character in the series, Moaning Myrtle.

Yang, as the elf, continues to refer to himself as 'Millennial Cringe' before running into the audience and hitting his head again on the camera lens.

'Why do you keep hurting yourself?' Che asked.

'Why? Dobby doesn’t know,' Yang answered. 'Perhaps because house elves are somehow always the problem, even though we’re only 1% of the population, but house elves aren’t the victims. Master Rowling is. She gets so much hate mail.'

Yang then produced a t-shirt that read, 'They. K Rowling,' before Jost chimed in to admit he had read the books and, since Dobby was given a piece of clothing, he was now a free elf.

The skit's inclusion in the late show's segment comes as Rowling and former Harry Potter star Watson have been publicly feuding over Rowling's controversial stance on the trans community.

Rowling came under fire from the former stars from the hit series, including Watson, and posted on X: 'Like other people who’ve never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she’s ignorant of how ignorant she is.'

Watson, who starred as Hermione Granger in the series, previously criticized Rowling which the author said 'poured more petrol on the flames' and further contributed to death threats and abuse.

Rowling previously vowed to 'never forgive' Watson or her Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint for having 'cozied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights.'

The author said the trio had 'every right to embrace gender identity ideology' but attacked them for using their links to Harry Potter to serve as 'de facto spokespeople' for the 'world I created.'

Rowling then focused her fire on Watson by suggesting her views on trans rights were due to her lack of experience of 'real life.'

The actress recently blamed her driving ban on being a movie star from a young age, saying it had left her 'unable to do some pretty basic life things.'

Rowling raged: 'I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous.

'I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges.'

Rowling went on to claim that Watson's recent claim that she still 'treasures' her was a cynical attempt to shift her stance after realizing 'full-throated condemnation of me is not as fashionable as it once was.'

'Emma and Dan in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right - nay, obligation - to critique me and my views in public.

'Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created.'
