The Block descended into chaos during the inspections on Monday as simmering tensions between two rival teams boiled over.

Fan favourites Britt and Taz launched a stinging critique of Sonny and Alicia's layout - but the move quickly backfired when fellow contestants hit back, slamming the West Australians for major painting blunders in their own build.

The confrontation escalated when Sonny, refusing to bite his tongue, sarcastically shouted across the site while walking past Britt and Taz's work-in-progress: 'Sorry, but that is f***ing amazing... and finished.'

Alicia also turned her fire on rival Can, mocking House 4's near miss on the scoreboard.

'You know what your mistake was,' she told her. 'You painted too nice.'

The fiery exchanges came just days after Sonny dobbed in Britt and Taz for working ahead on their alfresco deck, a breach that saw Foreman Dan ban the pair from continuing construction.

Rather than deter them, the punishment appeared to invigorate Britt, who vowed to landscapers that she wanted the space finished by Tuesday.

Adding further fuel, the couple's plan to transform half their shed into a wine bar drew criticism from Site Manager Aidan, who told them bluntly: 'It's a shed... make it a shed.'

Sonny and Alicia, by contrast, confirmed their shed would remain traditional.

The fallout extended to dinner discussions, where several contestants called for harsher penalties, including suggestions that Britt and Taz should be forced to rip up their deck.

Han, still frustrated after losing by just half a point in judging, said: 'They're cops, they should know, you break the rules you get penalised.'

But Sonny warned rivals that Britt and Taz would inevitably view the campaign as a personal attack, with tensions between the teams now at breaking point.

With outdoor spaces under construction and alliances fraying, this season of The Block is shaping up as one of the most explosive in the show's history.

It comes after The Block fan favourites Britt and Taz came to the defence of co-stars Sonny and Alicia after the pair were targeted by vicious online trolls.

The confrontation escalated when Sonny, refusing to bite his tongue, sarcastically shouted across the site while walking past Britt and Taz: 'Sorry, but that is f***ing amazing... and finished'

The West Australian couple have admitted that while tensions on the show are high, they do not support any form of hate being directed at their fellow contestants.

'We absolutely do not condone any comments from trolls and stuff like that. We deal with mental health on a daily basis with our work. Cyberbullying and trolling is one of the very big excesses on mental health,' Taz told Yahoo Lifestyle.

'It just absolutely takes a toll and deteriorates people. So we do not condone any of that. We do feel for Sonny and Alicia, who are copping the brunt of it.'

Sonny and Alicia have faced relentless trolling throughout this year's season, with criticism targeting them both professionally and personally, with their home design skills - and fiery personalities - frequently being criticised.

So severe has the online hate been that The Block's official social media accounts last week issued a stern warning, declaring that 'personal attacks, negativity and trolling will not be tolerated'.
