Star-studded comedy show shelved despite rave reviews in blow to fans - as bosses admit 'no more series are planned'

A star-studded comedy show has been shelved despite receiving raving reviews in a huge blow to fans.

Hosted by Jimmy Carr, 52, Battle In The Box first aired on U&Dave Comedy last year and saw pairs of celebrities battle it out in a range of challenges in a bid to win prizes.

The single season saw eight episodes and featured the likes of Katherine Ryan, Joe Swash, Seann Walsh and Tom Rosenthal, amongst many others.

However, insiders have now revealed that the show won't see another series 'for now', according to The Sun.

A source told the publication: 'Battle in the Box is being rested and no more series are planned for now.

'The show was one of the schedule staples for UKTV last year as they relaunched their channels with a bold new look.

'While there's no conversations happening about a second series, the show could return sometime in the future.'

The series received positive reviews from viewers, with one writing on Reddit: 'I really enjoyed it. As some have noted, Jimmy did seem to phone-in much of his one-liner contribution. Some of them hit pretty well.

'But the game itself was fun, the contestants funny.

'I really think to get full effect and do it justice, they need 48 hrs-72 hours, rather than just a day.'

Another wrote: 'Not a panel show but, I checked it out because of Jimmy Carr’s hosting and I ended up being entertained with its silly premise.

'Not Jimmy’s best host job, but I still got some smirks from his comments (particularly on the words ending in Ous bit from episode two).'

It comes after Jimmy Carr kicked out a rowdy guest at a gig earlier this month when he was performing at Birmingham's Symphony Hall.

Jimmy was unimpressed with a punter for talking during the opening 30 minutes of his routine and becoming a 'nuisance' to those around him.

According to an eye-witness, four audience members sitting next to the troublemaker - who was accompanied by a female - threatened to walk out and one of them, a male, had to be held back by his partner after appearing to aim a punch at the heckler.

Incredibly, after being alerted to what was happening while on stage, Jimmy then told the four leaving fans to stay put, before taking on the heckler - sitting in the front row of the first tier - in his notoriously brutal style.

Fans have also been raving over Jimmy's Amazon Prime show Last One Laughing UK.

It sees British comics face off in Jimmy Carr's challenge to make others laugh while keeping a straight face.

Part panel show, part reality show, it features comedians Daisy May Cooper, Bob Mortimer, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley, and Richard Ayoade.
