Amazon Studios confirmed Thursday that there will, in fact, be a third season for its Emmy-nominated prequel series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which has divided regular audiences and J.R.R. Tolkien devotees since its 2022 premiere.
There will be a time jump 'forward several years from the events of season two' on showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay's critically-acclaimed fantasy epic, which is set in the Second Age (spanning 3,441 years) of the world known as Middle-earth.
'Season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.'
Back in 2021, the streaming giant shelled out an eye-popping $1B for a five-season production deal on The Rings of Power, but fans are now wondering whether there will still be five with this time jump potentially skipping over major events.

'Sounds like they gave up on everything leading up to it and just want to put end on the show in the next season,' X user @SportsWRitchie scoffed.

'This is the best way to do it,' X user @SimonBoudreau2 mused.
'It will feel like we are truly at the core where everything feel in place and where the characters will be more as we already know them in LoTR. S1 and S2 had a common arc. S3 open up a new one. They have the chance to make it strong. I trust them!'
