There are plenty of places where you can learn to tango like a pro in the city
Buenos Aires: stunningly colourful, lively and romantic city
Why Buenos Aires? The air in Buenos Aires is not so much good as electric with excitement. It has a vibrant art and culture scene that frequently flows out on to the streets, along with a nightlife that will keep you up until the early hours.
What to see? Why not try something new — like tango. Whether you're feeling sultry or silly, the Tango Academy at the mansion Dandy Royal Hotel (00 54 11 4307 7623, mansiondandiroyal.com) will get you started, offering individual or group dance classes. If you visit during August, you may even catch the World Tango Championships.
Where to eat? You need to get down to La Cabrera (Cabrera 5099) in the Soho district early and jostle with the locals for a seat — they don't take bookings here. This is where you'll find out why Argentina is famed for its beef.
Where to stay? For something simple, stay at the Casa Alfaro (00 54 11 4831 0517, casaalfaro.com.ar) in lively Casa Palermo. A double room costs from £22 per night and includes Continental breakfast.
How to get there? Air Iberia flies from Heathrow to Buenos Aires from £646 return, including all taxes. (0870 609 0500, iberia.com)
