Stylish rooms for visitors looking to enjoy boho Brighton
Find it:
Just a few minute's walk from the sea, and of course, the Pier, you'll find Madeira Place, home to brightonwave hotel. From the train station, you'll need a cab, but the bars and restaurants are right on the doorstep. First impressions: From the street, brightonwave doesn't look all that different from the Victorian townhouse hotels that surround it. However, once inside, the art prints, clean white walls and modern furnishings state clearly that this is no chintzy B&B.
Co-owner Martin, who welcomes guests in, is more than happy to share his local knowledge on getting the best from the city.
What about the rooms? The first thing that grabs your attention is the bed. It's huge and sumptuous with a soft quilt and funky suede bed head that reaches to the ceiling.
Once you're settled comfortably, you can watch the DVDs - borrowed from the selection downstairs - on the flat screen TV or listen to CDs. The bathroom may be a little on the compact side but the posh products more than compensate. Wow factor: The chill-out music that's playing when you walk in the room, the fairy lights in the fireplace and the free choccies give the room a personal touch.
Best for: Those who love to party and want to rest their aching heads on perfectly plumped up pillows.
Will the kids like it? It's probably not the ideal place to bring them. The building is a narrow townhouse with quite steep stairs, the rooms have very heavy doors and there is no play area. The boutique bedrooms are also too immaculate for grubby little hands.
Food and drink: Breakfast can be served in rooms until 10.45am or in the dining area. It's all prepared by the other owner, Sean, and some of the delights on offer are filled croissants, pancakes, orange juice, fresh fruit and cereal. No evening meals are served.
What the other guests said: 'Beautifully decorated room but the bathrooms are tiny - sort of plastic pods like you might get in a very posh caravan.'
Official rating: Four Diamond Silver Accolade, no less Our verdict: A contemporary, tastefully designed and ideally located hotel with bags of individuality.
Value for money? For a luxury boutique hotel, a price range of £80 to £135 for a double room isn't too tough on the wallet but for weekend visitors, the minimum two-night stay bumps up the price quite significantly.
