The Samburu tribe are pastoralists who keep cattle, sheep and goats and are closely related to their southern neighbours, the Maasai.
Their staple food is maize meal and milk, which they often mix with blood. Meat is eaten only during special ceremonies.
Most dress in traditional clothing of bright red material used like a skirt and multibeaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings, especially when living away from the big cities.
The language of the Samburu people is also called Samburu. It is a Maa language that closely resembles the Maasai dialects.
