Snow lovers can take advantage of some great end-of-season deals over the next few weeks. Travel firms still have plenty of packages left and bookings have slowed through fears about flying and worries about the economy.
Worse still - for US ski resorts - European skiers and snowboarders have not had to cross the Atlantic for great conditions this season.
Ski Independence (Tel: 0870 600 1462) has slashed fares to the Colorado resorts of Vail and Breckenridge, offering seven nights in a chalet in Breckenridge for £549 (down from £849), departing on 29 March, including flights from Heathrow and full board.
There are also huge savings to be made on trips to Europe. Independent travel company Ski Solutions (Tel: 020 7471 7700) has seven nights in a fully catered chalet in Val D'Isère, departing 29 March, for £395 (down from £650), including flights from Gatwick. One week in a fully catered chalet in Courchevel 1850 now costs £329 instead of £681, departing Gatwick on 5 April.
Bargain hunters should also check on the internet. Martha Lane Fox of Lastminute.com says: "We specialise in four- and five-star hotels and we have some holidays at 50 per cent off, others at 75 per cent off." Among its best deals, Lastminute has seven nights in Livigno from the end of March for £149, or 10 days skiing in the Canadian Rockies for £299.
