Booking levels are already much lower than normal for this time of year.
If war does break out, they are likely to tumble further and many holiday companies may find themselves in trouble - 120 operators went bust as a result of the Gulf War.
If you buy a package, check that it's protected under the ATOL, ABTA or AITO bonding schemes. If you buy a flight, check that it's covered under the ATOL scheme; otherwise, buy airline failure travel insurance or pay with a credit card.
