York has a buzzing, cosmopolitan restaurant scene, with excellent central and out of town options.
We stayed within sight of the city walls for the most part, where we café hopped along the riverfront behind St Helen's Square - the up-and-coming area of the city, populated with concept bars and shiny chrome restaurants.
The historical streets of Low Petergate, Stonegate and Swinegate are also close to some of York's finest restaurants.
Plunkets on Fossgate, in the shadow of the Minster, offers sizzling Mexican and South American food.
The restaurant caters for parties, or candlelit dinners a deux and thoughtfully separates both for maximum enjoyment.
Main courses cost around £11.
Open Monday to Saturday 12-11pm.
