Follow the track of the cat

Snowcats are the ideal introduction to wilderness skiing. They are piste-grooming machines modified to carry passengers a long way from the prepared slopes.
They go slowly and carry lots of food and drink, so you have ample time for rest and refreshments between runs. They can't go up steep hills, so the terrain they access is usually moderate.
The best resorts for snowcats include Aspen (tel: 001 970 920 0720) in Colorado, Grand Targhee (tel: 001 307 353 2300) in Wyoming, and Fernie (tel: 001 250 423 3700) in Canada.
Expect to pay around £175 for 10-12 runs, including lunch.
