But where do these millions of pictures end up? Often, cherished holiday photos of hidden attractions stay stashed in a cupboard at home or hidden on a hard drive. But not any more!
A new website www.discoveramerica.com is the place to go to make sure your pictures don't just gather dust.
The official tourism site, which goes live on Tuesday, has 15,000 interactive pages of tourist information, maps and picture galleries on 50 states and dozens of major cities.
The site is designed specifically for Ireland and the UK and will allow travellers to post personal reviews and digital photographs to provide a blend of official and authentic traveller information.
A total of 491,000 Irish people visited the US last year, an increase of 18% on 2006 and the number of UK tourists who travelled across the Atlantic grew by 8% on 2006 to 4.5 million people.
'DiscoverAmerica.com is the first official US travel and tourism website designed specifically for Irish and British tourists,' said TIA president Roger J Dow.
'The Traveller Stories section allows fellow travellers users to exchange reviews, recommendations and images in an informal format,' he added.
The site also contains 24 themed holiday categories such as shopping, theme parks, beaches and coasts, and national parks.
The resource also features useful entry policy information, interactive mapping tools, an activity finder and travel booking options.
