Using Search
Last updated at 09:59 24 April 2008
The Travelmail archive contains thousands of travel articles, news stories and destination guides, plus a rapidly growing number of articles that users have submitted using the Your Holidays feature. To help you find what you are looking for, this site incorporates a powerful search engine that makes it quick and easy for you to find Travelmail content that interests you. WebPages from other sites are not searched.
The search engine works much like the major search engines. It will return results based upon the actual text that appears on a web page and also the context and relevance of that text.
There are three ways in which you can search Travelmail content:
1) Free text search: Type what you are looking for into the top search box and then click the Search button. The search engine will then display a list of articles, guides and other Travelmail content that contain content relevant to your request. Clicking on the title of a result will open the full article.
If you are looking for something more specific or simply get too may results, you can try the following:
Phrase Searches
If you want to search for a few words that appear together rather than as separate words on the page you can put quotation marks around the search words. Obviously, the number of results that are returned will be significantly reduced as you use longer and more specific phrases. Eg: Search for : "spanish golf" will return results that contain this exact phrase.
Negative Searches
If your search term has more than one meaning (for example there are several places in the world called san antonio) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid. Eg: Search for : san antonio –Ibiza.
2) Search by destination: We have listed, in alphabetical order, the most popular destinations in the dropdown list. Simply click on the destination that you are interested in and the search engine will display a list of articles, guides and other Travelmail content related your selection.
3) Search by holiday type: If the type of holiday that you are interested in is more important than the desination, then this is a good place to start. Select one one of the entries in the dropdown list and the search engine will display a list of articles, guides and other Travelmail content that refers to your selection.
