St.Martin, Caribbean

Arrived early morn in the Dutch/French island of St.Maarten/St.Martin. A resort come salt mining town, and a place hot enough to fry eggs on the pavement.
John and I nearly keeled over in this sun attack as we wandered down the dusty dock road into Phillipsburg. The view across the bay reminded me of Llandudno but there wern't many Taffs here, certainly a few Toffs though!
Arrived at the beach in midtown after a half hour walk from the cruise terminal. I was ready for a cooling dip in the emerald clear waters.
Went diving in off the jetty into the cold water forgetting to take out my cabin room key. That is now another Key in the Caribbean islands!
A mini Las Vegas is happening on the main street here with casinos and colouful characters abounding. Cigarettes and alcohol for sale at very cheap prices. A carton of 200 Marlboro for $7.50 US. Thats the same price as for one packet in the UK!
John's 72 years were catching up with him in the relentless heat and he tendered back to the Sundream. I continued to mosey round and check out some more of this burning town.
As I crept back along the salt-dusted harbour road, a gargantuan of the P&O line, the Dawn Princess, was pulling alongside our dwarf sized first generation cruise-ship, thus creating a comparison between the old and new worlds as portrayed by this US powered titan.
Our little anchors were soon up and away!
