Menton is an ecclectic mix of the old and new. The old Medieval town has two magnificent Baroque churches which dominate the terracotta paved steps and alleyways.
The views over the bay from the top are breathtaking. The new town is a cosmopolitan mix of both French and Italian restaurants as it's only a mile from the border of Italy.
The morning market has a stunning array of the freshest fruit, vegetables and fish, and is the perfect way to experience the French way of life.
There is a long shingle beach and the beachfront restaurants offer sunloungers and waiter service at not too high a price. For the more energetic there's a fantastic coastal path which takes you towards Monaco (just 6 miles away) with stunning scenery around every corner.
There is a very efficient train service that runs the length of the Riveria and to Italy, this allows you take in the views as you travel along this fantastic coastline.
Some 650 metres above Menton is the perched village of St Agnes - the highest in the Riveria. It's a bit of a white knuckle drive but the views are staggering and not to be missed.
For me, Menton is the perfect place to be, the slower pace of life, healthier diet and evening dips in the Med just can't be beaten.
Menton has the best climate in the Cote d'Azur boasting around 300 days of sunshine a year. At only 1 1/2 hours flight from the UK it's a great place to be at any time of the year.
