The Ghan

My experience on the Ghan in August was much worse than Brenda Hart's (Mail on Sunday 19 December).
Travelling Red Kangaroo sleeper, albeit cheaper, I found rude service, only the worst kind of fast food, toilets arbitrarily locked, lack of paper towels despite repeated requests, and sporadic announcements mainly referring to Gold passengers.
Tours were completely unavailable, being 'sold out' and a woman with her elderly father was in tears being unable to take him to Katherine Gorge at all.
After repeated letters of complaint, I have at least been sent a discount voucher for 50 per cent off any GSR train journey, but I am not sure I want to repeat the experience!
Like Brenda Hart, I have travelled on numerous other trains, also in Australia, and have never encountered problems.
They certainly need to improve their 'act' since The Ghan is being marketed as such a wonderful journey.
