Air France yesterday merged with the Dutch national airline KLM to create Europe's biggest airline.
The combined company will have an annual revenue of £13.4billion, becoming the world's third biggest in passenger numbers behind American Airlines and United.
British Airways, previously Europe's biggest, said: 'It will be interesting to see if other airlines follow this route.' BA has recently taken a nine per cent stake in the Spanish national carrier, Iberia.
