Greece launches pre-booking on ferries
Last updated at 09:24 19 April 2004
The unforgiving 'first come first served' seat policy on Greece's passenger ferries will be eased this summer with the launch of an online booking service on three major lines.
Blue Star Ferries, Anek and Minoan Lines - all owned by ViaMare - are offering a pre-booking service allowing island-hoppers to secure tickets in advance.
However, guaranteeing a seat comes at a price. Pre-booking costs £20, double the amount of some of the shorter crossings available.
The booking fee will be wavered for multiple bookings over the value of £100 and travellers making a single journey will be advised to book on arrival.
ViaMare Managing Director Zachary Yannakoudakis said of the scheme: 'You can plan your trip before you go, because you can see what services are available'.
