Branson plans first low-cost US flights

Low-cost transatlantic flights - the next natural step for budget carriers - will become a reality by 2005 if plans announced by Sir Richard Branson go ahead.
Branson says Virgin will be the first airline to launch a UK to US no-frills product, with flights starting as early as next Spring.
Cash made from the anticipated sale of Virgin Mobile and profits from Virgin Blue - which flies in Australia - will be used to fund the project.
The plans are reportedly so advanced that Branson has already picked a new chief executive to oversee proceedings and picked a name...Virgin USA.
'In some ways, Blue in Australia was a rehearsal for Virgin USA - it showed it could be done,' a Virgin Spokesperson said.
