Tangaloom Island Resort

Moreton Island is a perfect example of the cliched tropical island, with the white sand, light blue waters and sunny skies. However, it has a lot more going for it than just that.
The island, through Tangaloom Island resort, caters for a variety of guests, ranging from honeymooners to families.
It is less expensive and less precocious than the equally-stunning Whitsundays further north, and most Brits will probably find the climate slightly more pleasant - it's as sunny as the islands further north, but the heat and humidity aren't as stifling, being situated below the Tropic of Capricorn.
For me, there were two major standouts:
1. Sandboarding: using a 'boogie board' to 'surf' down the impossibly humungous white sand dunes. It's exhilarating and a unique experience.
The only suggestion I have would be a chair lift, because the legs turn to jelly the next day after walking up those dunes a couple of times!
2. Feeding the dolphins: each night the resort feeds the dolphins down at the beach. Although they are technically wild, they are tame enough to come and take food out of your hand. And yes, everyone is able to feed and touch the dolphins too!
Along with these activities, there are the usual things like snorkelling (obviously not as first rate as on the Barrier Reef, but still pleasant nonetheless); bush walking and water sports.
The resort food is first rate and samples the best of Australia's fresh seafood and red meat. Hint: try the Moreton Bay bugs!
All in all, a perfect place to take the kids for a relaxing few days or to take a partner for a romantic getaway.
