The Foreign Office has advised all British nationals in Jordan to consider leaving unless their presence is essential.
The British Embassy in the popular holiday destination has reduced staff following the latest advice and dependant relatives of diplomats staying in Jordan have been advised to leave.
The close proximity of Jordan to Iraq has lead officials to fear the country could be affected by imminent war.
The latest government advice reads 'We believe that Jordan continues to be one of a number of countries where there is an increased threat to British institutions and organisations from global terrorism...with rising tensions in the region, the risk of further terrorist attacks is increasing'.
The country has been a no-go area for tourists since 21 February 2003 when the government advised against all non-essential travel.
