Lake Tahoe, California

Lake Tahoe has it all - five or more mountains to ski, every watersport you could imagine, fantastic golf courses, spectacular views, casinos, pubs, clubs and great restaurants.
We visited Tahoe in January and while the snow was thin on the ground, had a full weeks skiing on Heavenly, Squaw Valley (host of the Winter Olympics in the 60s) and Kirkwood mountains.
The runs and trails are stunning and as ever in the States, the infrastructure and staff efficient and ever helpful.
I'd highly recommend Ridge Run on Heavenly - with arrows pointing to the state of California on one side, and Nevada on the other (a Kodak moment!), the trail is a long, meandering run through trees with views of the alpine lake and ice-capped mountains on one side and the Nevada desert on the other.
There may be snow under skis, but it feels permanently mild and sunny here too!
The town has dozens of good restaurants and things to do for non-skiiers too. Don't miss this!
