We stayed in Protaras at the beginning of May for a fortnight. It wasn't our first choice of resort, as we had received bad news in the post regarding Paphos. The main sewer was being replaced outside original hotel so we switched resort after many tears from family.
Our hotel choice was nice but the resort was very tacky indeed. Terrible pavement conditions, with lots of dangerous piping coming up through the middle of walkway, a nightmare for toddlers or elderly folk.
The shops mainly consisted of tat, with a couple of up-market jewellers and quality giftware shops dotted here and there. Karaoke bars everywhere, theme bars ie: Friends, and Fools and Horses, showing videos on widescreens, selling overpriced cocktails.
Not much to see besides the lovely beach and crystal clear sea. You would need to hire a car to explore, as nowhere of any interest is within walking distance. Time share folk have now arrived in Protaras. A couple of years ago when we visited Paphos no-one had ever heard of "Time-Share". It will ruin this lovely holiday island sadly, before long. My family will not want to return to Protaras again, maybe Paphos in a few years' time.
