Checking the weather
Last updated at 09:57 28 December 2001
A major consideration in planning your honeymoon is what the weather will be like in your chosen destination at the time of year you plan to travel.
After flicking through brochure after brochure with glorious pictures of white sand beaches and turquoise seas, it's easy to assume that your destination will always look like that.
But don't forget that tropical paradises are lush because they have high rainfall at certain times of the year.
Many also have quite regionalised weather patterns that are not always reflected in the rough climate guides given in some travel brochures.
Thailand, for instance, has several different monsoon patterns operating in various parts of the country at any one time and the Philippines has at least five.
Mauritius is another place where you will need precise details about the climate.
Although the island is only 35 miles wide and 38 miles long, its weather is microclimatical - in July and August the east coast can be very windy while the west coast is sheltered.
May to October - the traditional wedding season in Britain - also coincides with hurricane season in the Caribbean, as any reputable travel agent or operator should point out to you. So do your homework carefully.
Ultimately you may have to make a straight choice between whether it is the timing of your wedding or the destination of your honeymoon which is the most important to you.
