This beautiful island lies off the coast of Africa some 250 miles from The Canaries.
Unlike them, it offers the traveller quiet respite from the hustle of normal life.
Being volcanic there are no beaches so you should choose your hotel carefully, but it offers soaring peaks, deep lush valleys and waterfalls that cascade over the northern coast road.
I went in December when temperatures were comfortably warm but the days cannot offer guaranteed sun. Indeed, most afternoons were cloudy and I experienced three days of rain.
However, if you want peace and beauty then it is recommended.
