Late deals

If you are willing to wait until a few days before you go, then outside high season, and especially in January, you may be able to get extremely good deals.
Tour operators who have committed themselves to charter flight seats and to chalet beds which are going begging figure that it is better to sell them at huge discounts than to leave them empty.
So you may be able to get amazing deals - half the brochure price or less.
Look in the small ads in Saturday's Daily Mail or The Mail on Sunday and scour the internet - you'll find the best late deals from Teletext under late deals on This is Travel's homepage.
Specialist ski travel agents such as Ski Solutions (tel: 020 7471 7700; www.skisolutions.com), Alpine Answers (tel: 020 8871 4656; www.alpineanswers.co.uk), Iglu.com (tel: 0870 870 5787; www.iglu.com) may also have good deals on offer.
But to get the best prices you have to be prepared to be flexible about both resort and accommodation - a big party is unlikely to be able to get a cheap deal to the same chalet.
Hotel and apartment deals are not as common because tour operators do not commit themselves to beds there in the same way as they do with chalets, which they rent for the whole season.
