What to find out when you book

When you go away with a toddler, you are going to spend far more time in the hotel room than you would normally.
It is often the safest place for changing, feeding, and having a daytime nap.
Having your toddler in the same room is the safest and cheapest option, especially if they have reached the stage of being able to climb out of their cot or bed.
If they are in a bed, they will probably wake earlier than you, climb out and explore.
If you want to have two rooms, make sure they are interconnecting and leave the door open.
Your child will need to be able to find you first thing in the morning.
Here are the main questions to ask when booking a hotel:
* What are the discounts for a child sharing your room? Most hotels give at least a 50% discount, or your child may be able to stay free
* How big is the room? Try and book as large a space as you can, otherwise you will be climbing the walls
* What equipment can they provide in the way of cots, safety rails for a bed and highchairs?
* Are there separate eating arrangements for young children, or can they eat early in the restaurant?
* Can they provide food suitable for the palate of a toddler?
* Is the swimming pool safely enclosed or does it have a cover?
* What baby-sitting or listening services do they have?
* Is there a crèche, nursery, or safe play area?
* If there is a disco or night-club at the hotel, can they provide you with a room well away from night-time noise?
* Can you boil water in the room?
* Is there air conditioning in the room if you are in a hot country?
* Are there stairs or a lift to the rooms?
* If your child isn't used to a shower, make sure you have a bath, or there will be much screaming
* Is there a night-light if your child needs one to sleep?
* Does the bed have a waterproof sheet?
