Is skiing dangerous?

No is the simple answer. Skiing has an unfounded reputation for danger and injury.
Maybe that dates back to the days when broken legs were a not uncommon sight on the mountains or back home.
But improved ski and binding technology means that broken legs are very rare these days.
And statistics show that skiing is much safer than most other sports.
A leading expert has claimed that your chances of being injured are twice as high with tennis and squash, five times as high with cricket and ten times as high with rugby, for example.
And your chances of being killed during a day's skiing are less than one in eight million.
In this respect, climbing is more than sixty times as risky, motorsport twelve times, watersports (such as windsurfing and canoeing) five times and horse riding three times as risky.
