By train...
The train journey from London takes around five and a half hours, departing from either King's Cross or Euston station.
The cost of a return rail ticket varies hugely and depends on when you want to travel and how far in advance you are able to book. They can be picked up for less than £40.
Virgin Trains (www.virgintrains.co.uk) runs services up the west coast leaving from London Euston. GNER (www.gner.co.uk) runs trains up the east coast leaving from London King's Cross.
By air.... Glasgow is served by two airports. Glasgow Airport is seven miles from the city centre and there are regular buses into town. A black cab from the airport to the city centre should cost you between £15 and £18, though a minicab will be cheaper.
Prestwick Airport is an hour from the city by train.
There are flights from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, London City, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Manchester and Southampton. Carriers include British Airways, Ryanair and Easyjet.
Shopping around it should be possible to pick up a one-way ticket for around £30.
